Big Island Clubmaker Earns GCA International Award

Mike Moynahan, owner of Kama‘aina Clubmakers in Kamuela, Hawaii was recently named one of the 2008-2009 Top Ten Worldwide Clubmakers of the Year by the Golf Clubmakers Association (GCA).

The GCA received hundreds of nominations from around the world for the prestigious Clubmaker of the Year award. A panel consisting of several GCA officials and other golf clubmaking experts selected winners from each state (U.S.), province (Canada) and country (International) who exemplified the overall best qualities of golf club repair, club fitting and community work. A group of clubmakers were chosen as the Top Ten Worldwide Clubmakers of the Year.

“All of the 2008-2009 GCA award winners should be proud because they have received some of the clubmaking industry’s highest honors,” said Golfsmith R & D Vice President Jeff Sheets, who served on the panel of judges. “This award recognizes Mr. Moynahan’s ability, integrity and professionalism.”

This is Moynahan’s THIRD consecutive win at Top Ten Worldwide as well as his FIFTH consecutive win for Hawaii State Clubmaker of the Year. Moynahan and other award winners were honored during the 19th Annual GCA International Conference held this month in Austin, Texas.

The Golf Clubmakers Association was founded in 1980 by Golfsmith International, Inc. It is the most established and largest organization promoting the craft of clubmaking. The Clubmaker of the Year Awards commenced in 1996.

Mike Moynahan has teed-off with much success in the national and international golf community. Mike custom fits and builds superior clubs for any golfer, professional or novice. Additional services he offers include re-shafting, re-gripping, loft and lie adjustments, length adjustments, swingweight matching, computerized launch monitor analysis, fitting and proper shaft alignment using the SST PURE® Shaft Alignment System.

Kama’aina Clubmakers performs repairs for players and tour representatives at highly acclaimed tournaments such as the Mercedes Championship (1999-2007) and the EMC Ka’anapali Classic (Senior PGA Tour 1999, 2000), as well as the Kapalua Lincoln Mercury Tournament (1996, 1997). In conjunction with Roy’s Restaurants, in 1998 Mike Moynahan established and still currently co-chairs the Roy’s Restaurants Tournaments benefiting Imua Family Services.
